The poem I want introduce you guys to today, and one of my top favorite poems (pretty much) of all time, is “A Penny for Your Thoughts.” This poem is definitely way different than any of the other poems I’ve discussed on this blog because it talks to us on an extremely personal level. A lot of poets experiment and try out different styles until they come to find the specific one that defines their artistry, however, listening to Gemineye’s work, he seemed to have found that early on. Gemineye is known for his eye opening and inspiring poems and what I find to be great about him is that his style stays consistent while still keeping his work intriguing. He’s appeared on three seasons of this HBO show and has reached audiences around the globe with his poetry including the US, Canada, Turks & Caicos, England, South Africa, Switzerland, and more. Hip-Hop artist Mos Def hosted this series and it featured a vast range of artists from Kanye West to Saul Williams to the poet I’m going to be talking about today: Gemineye.
